Description
We can live in a paisley world,
Of colors, all mixed up in swirls.
We can hide in the subterfuge,
Blend in with the curling hues.
For some reverse and some contain
Patterns, to confound the brain.
Some double back, the very same way,
And some are mute, and some delayed.
We won't talk so they won't hear
Words between us, that make clear
A paisley world is best for us;
But plaid works just as well, I trust.

Title: Paisley World
Its been an iconic symbol for millenniums. First seen as a pattern on womens shawls, the paisley is now widespread throughout the fashion scene signifying a heritage of style and sophistication.
Representing a frond from the Tree of Life, the earliest examples are linked to the Babylonian empire 2200BC. The predominant food source of the era was the date palm, which also provided building materials such as wood, string and thatch. By providing nourishment and shelter, the date palm was regarded as the Tree of Life.
From the 1500s, Persia was the country that promoted the paisley throughout their various art forms and surfaces. Mid 1700s, the patterned shawls were introduced to the UK as a luxury item. The 1840s saw the invention of the Jacquard loom, which enabled complex patterns to be woven quickly and consistently. This allowed an even wider selection of patterns to be designed and produced. Designers were now experimenting and showcasing very fine detail within their designs.
The world had now embraced the exotic paisley pattern and stolen designs were being produced everywhere. The British government had to introduce an extreme measure to stop this by offering patents on the design for up to one year.
Today the paisley continues to symbolise luxury and style. Designs continue to be more and more complicated with intricate detail being applied. The paisley has been seen on many products and applications outside the fashion industry that confirm the popularity of the beautiful paisley pattern in pattern design.
